Statement

These works are done during IB’s Visual Art course. All of my works are the result of research throughout history, culture, technological and science. My first Unit began with the mission to study silhouelle and transformation of human body. During this unit I design tops according to form of natural living such as fungi, octopus and coral reef. After researching in history of fashion, I interested in nun’s uniform. I found that in nun society there are hierarchy between lower nun and higher nun. We can tell that from looking at their uniform and habit. I designed a uniform for nun by using recycle non-process cotton bag as material. The third photo shows the process of making uniform. The whiteness of non-process cotton represents virginity of women. The high collar makes masculine for this uniform and the drape inside it represents the gentle and kindness of women.

Second unit is called illusion, I aimed to study visual perspective and influence of colour used in designed works. This unit I working collaboratively with my extended essay “An Analysis of Different Uses of Colour in Painting and Its impact on the viewer”. The whole unit was based on science of seeing. Some of the experiments and research are shown in first photo of unit 2. The final piece was design to create illusion by using concept of visual perspective, it trick the perception of deepness in human brain. The model will look like they are floating in the air.

My last unit was dedicated to psychological aspect, as I was referent to my TOK presentation which is about how peoples distinguish “beauty”. I was concern about beauty in different culture. First four photos in third unit is the sketch of earring and necklace that I had inspiration from Africans’ tribal. The last two photos is final piece of this unit based on question about beauty by plastic surgery, face lift and cosmetic.

I believe that good design came from experiments and researches. I’m interested in designs that are human friendly. Interior design course would provide me an opportunity to study in design as what individual need and want. I truly believe that interior is the most importance element of architectural because it’s where we actually live. However, I want to learn to design the right environment for humanity and gain knowledge from this course as much as possible.
